After months of anticipation, Hendrick Motorsports has made an announcement on who will be Steve Letarte’s replacement next year as Dale Earnhardt Jr’s crew chief. Greg Ives will be new crew chief for NASCAR’s most popular driver in 2015.

Ives has spent the last two seasons working for Earnhardt Jr in the Nationwide series as crew chief for JR Motorsport’s drivers. In 2014 he has been the crew chief for Nationwide rookie, Chase Elliott. The combination has racked up three wins and is leading the points so far in their first year together. Ives as also spent time as a race engineer for Jimmie Johnson’s 48 team during their five year run of winning Sprint Cup titles. So this will be a return of sorts to HMS for the 34 year old from Bark River, Michigan. Owner of Hendrick Motorsports, Rick Hendrick had this to say Wednesday, “This is a talented guy who already has a terrific rapport with Dale Jr. and is a fit with the organization. He and Chad had a lot of success together, and all of our crew chiefs think the world of him and what he's accomplished. Greg's proven that he can win races, and he has all the tools to do big things." Rick also stated that Greg Ives was their “number one choice.”

Current crew chief of the No. 88 Chevy team, Steve Letarte, will leave the team to take an opportunity in broadcasting with NBC Sports in 2015.
